In light of the new accusations published by Der Spiegel about Manchester City (although some are arguing these are merely a rehash of older accusations) is there any indication that the Premier League are a) properly investigating this matter b) close to reaching any sort of conclusion/judgment? It's been 3 years and the only things we have heard are from German news outlets and UEFA, the Premier League has remained relatively silent. Are they trying to just sweep it under the carpet and hope nobody cares? Are they even competent enough to investigate something as complex as this? Would love any insight any Ed's could provide on this matter.

P.s I'm posting here in case the Liverpool page is deemed to be the inappropriate place for such inquiry.

{Ed002's Note - They are not totally new, one matter relates to something that was dropped from the 2013/14 FFP investigation (which cost the a sigificant fine) and a previous manager. The second claim relates to the club recieving State payments via sponsors - this is a continuance of the matter that was addressed in court with UEFA in 2020 with Manchester City winning out after appealing to CAS who overturned the decission. The claim impacts FFP directly but would need to be significantly different to the prior case. Even though the holding company is different to ADUG, the same argument would be used in that it is a private company owned by Sheikh Mansour and is also closely tied to the State. There is further evidence about payments for two players not being made by the City Football Group or the Club, but by ADUG - but that ship has sailed for UEFA now. There is a claim about payments made for an underage player to sign nine years ago - that is obviously against the rules and perhaps someone will chase after that. UEFA would need to make sure there is not a witch hunt starting. The Premier League have been investigating the FFP claims and there have been meetings with Manchester City. That will continue.}

Thanks for the insight Ed, both interesting and murky. It feels like the will for a significant investigation is lacking but we’ll see how it pans out. It does seem a little weird that they’re looking at things from so long ago, I don’t really careone way or another but if regulations are being completely ignored and abused then something should be done. What an interesting saga.

{Ed002's Note - The rules are not being ignored.}
